"Hope, Ghana"
a documentary by Zheng Wang

Official Selection: Heart of England International Film Festival        Official Selection: International Film Festival of South Africa

In 2008, a group of friends based in Seattle took part in an ongoing fundraising effort toward water and education solutions in Ghana, West Africa.  That fall, five of them visited Ghana to see the impact of their fundraising.  Their trip was named "Seattle to Ghana: Foundation of Hope."  While each participant started the journey with different motivations and expectations, what they saw and experienced during the trip were life-changing for all of them.  This documentary follows the group through their fundraising, trip preparation, and their time in Ghana.  It is a celebration of their unforgettable experience with the people of Ghana, and the heart connections that formed beyond the boundaries of continent and race.

For more details on that trip and the supported causes (mechanized water boreholes and schools for disadvantaged children), see the photo gallery.

The Bigger Picture: Since 2006, a total of six groups have traveled from Seattle to Ghana as part of an ongoing charity project that has raised almost $300,000 toward water boreholes and other projects in Ghana.  This extraordinary effort is spearheaded by Jan Kline, Outreach Coordinator at St. John Vianney Church in Kirkland.  All fundraising was conducted through W.A.T.E.R., a US 501(c)3 non-profit organization. If you wish to make a donation, here is how!
