
It was about one month before the Ghanaian presidential election (Dec 7), and we saw posters of various candidates everywhere. The upper left photo shows a rally vehicle going from village to village. Ghana holds presidential election once every four years, and there are two major parties plus several smaller parties. When we talked with Ghanaians about the election, their biggest wish was for a peaceful election. For obvious reasons, they watched the U.S. presidential election closely, and they were very excited about the outcome! For our group, it was a special privilege to be in Africa when the son of an African man became the U.S. president-elect.
P.S. The Ghanaian presidential election did occur peacefully on Dec 7, 2008, and the votes for the top two candidates were too close to call. After a run-off election, John Atta Mills was awarded the victory by a margin of less than 1%. No endless recounts there...
